Excellent Post! You should not categorize this in any way with the media vultures - they are looking for "new angles" to a story and trying to one-up each other by asking inane, unreasonable questions. The worst of which was shown at yesterday's press conference with the president and chief of campus police.
Thanks for deciding to go ahead and post this!

I don't talk to strangers. and it's not because of some archaic rule of my childhood. i'm shy. very very very shy. and socially awkward. but sometimes people get shy mistaken with stuck-up, so i went through a phase where i tried to be more outgoing - chatting in line at the grocery store or with neighbors.
the first time i "chatted" with my neighbor the conversation was:
e: that's a cute dog.
stranger: my husband left me right after i had our baby because i was fat and i ended up with the dog too.
what do you say there?

then in the grocery store i see the woman in front of me wearing a UVA hat...
e: that's a great hat! did you go to UVA?
stranger: no, my son did. until he died.
again? i mean, you can say you're sorry, but did i need to know this?

and then today my office mate, who i suppose is not a stranger, but also not my best friend, told me he and his wife have not been intimate in three weeks. i DID NOT prompt this discussion.

oh the days of recitals...i was in one in middle school where the evil administrators who put the recital together maliciously put my name two people after the Asian musical genius kid who was playing the same song. He played it perfectly - hitting every note with dramatic flourish as if his fingers were meant for this song, and from memory no less. as soon as he stopped, i promptly got up, ran out, and locked myself in the bathroom and wouldn't come out until my dad had pulled the car around and i could make a mad dash. traumatized for life.

we always ate as a family growing up. my mom stayed home from work and cooked and we were expected to be home for dinner or give 24 hours notice if we were going to be out (in high school and college). once my dad retired, he took over the cooking and i really wish i still lived there. one particular night stands out for me, though i wasn't actually there... my mom is a bit psycho, especially about food and eating. so, we had bbq hotdogs on saturday before a concert. and then apparently we were going to have leftover hotdogs on sunday. this was known only to my mother. so, my sister, not realizing she was eating dinner had a hotdog or two for lunch. well, when it came time to reheat the hotdogs and chili sauce, there were only 5 hotdogs for 5 people. perfect! oh, but no, apparently - according to my mother, my father did not care - my dad MUST have 2 hot dogs. leaving 3 for 4 people. my sister offered to go to the store to buy more, but that idea was shot down (pretty much literally). the offending hot dog eating sister snuck out to each mcd's instead of braving dinner with the witch (aka, my mom). so, my grandmother and my younger sister opted to split a hot dog, my mother had one hot dog, and the third hot dog sat on the plate, got cold, and then ended up rotting away in the refrigerator because everyone was too scared to eat it. and that is a classic lucas family story :)

no insight or comments on how the vice president can also be re-elected to the senate? i guess that falls under that gray area where it's also okay for your state senator to completely stop working for you and run for president for TWO YEARS!!!

good point, thanks! it's just one more ridiculous thing about the way our political system works.

today my pet peeve is people acting like it's weird that i missed the 8am meeting today. it's usually on wednesdays and the "notice" about the change was sent out yesterday at 4:57pm. EVERYONE knows i leave at 3. and unlike some people i don't check my e-mail at home because i have enough to do. so, i won't feel bad. no matter how many people make smart a$$ comments about it!

It's not possible to avoid the "did you get turrets during the registering or did we actually think we wanted this?" conversation when putting away your wedding gifts. and, if you try to avoid that by sparsely populating your registry, then you have only yourself to blame for the insanely random things people buy you - where every card has the "it wasn't on your registry, but we use ours ALL THE TIME!!!" line. good times :)

i had to take that test and another one on IA and BOTH are now in that super new "takes 10 seconds to load page" format. so much for the days of skipping through the test and answering the moronic questions at a rapid fire pace!

It seems kind of wrong to review a book released after his death...unless you know he was planning on publishing the book. Maybe he knew it was just passable and was hanging on to it so he could fix it up and release an "A" someday!

WHAT?! the nuggets get a D? i kind of like those things. even if they do taste "peculiar". in my house, they get an "A+" as they are the ONLY meat product my 3 year old will eat, and chick fil a is just not an option every night!

1) Who are you? Erin 2) How do you know me? Through Anna. I heard about you a lot before being invited to the annual Halloween bash! 3) How and when did you find this site? Anna, Katie, and Diana would talk about your posts every time we hung out, so I figured I should start reading. Now, I am a subscriber and read daily. 4) Where is your website? crackingunderpressure.blogspot.com <- though i have not updated in so long it is embarrassing 5) What would you like to say to the rest of us? Hi! Especially to my fellow lurkers :)

Love this post! My new least favorite is "let's setup a working group" = let's have meetings to talk about the problem so it looks like we are doing something.

While you are answering things, how were the pork chops? If they were delicious, will we see another recipe-inspired post?

I wish this were true! We could get neon blue baseball hats and host dinners at Chick-Fil-A the same nights as Eugene Delgaudio is there ranting and raving!

1. Nothing. Everyone ALWAYS sees me do the really ridiculous stuff. 2. Life Improvement Tip: Run the dishwasher if it is 75% or more full instead of waiting until it is so full you cannot cram another thing in; waiting means you have a sink full of dishes that wouldn't fit. It may not be cost-saving, but my kitchen has never stayed as clean as it has been since I allowed myself to run a non-full dishwasher. 3. It would be awesome to actually read all the things I bookmark to come back and read someday.
