It's already August and I still haven't finished the Writings section of this site. I'm still a little in summer vacation mode -- I bet real life won't hit until September when I realize that I haven't packed up to move. There are some new pictures of the resident cats and their zany antics, as well as pictures from my trip to Colonial Beach this weekend with my roommate and assorted compatriots (I caught two fish, bringing my grand lifetime total to three). Visit the Photos page for a few amusing minutes of your time.

I stumbled over an article in the Post a few weeks ago that was a little disturbing . The girl mentioned in the article was the same year as me, and we had gym and science together in eighth grade. I've even got an entry in an old yearbook from here. It's amazing how quickly you lose touch with schoolmates from your past that weren't necessarily your constant friends.

It looks like Alias will be around for at least five more seasons . Because you're all so interested in the show, you should obviously already know that the first season DVD comes out September 2, the second season DVD comes out December 2, and the third season begins on TV on September 28.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, but I've managed to get a lot accomplished. At work, I'm still working with outside consultants for software configuration. The summer intern program ended this week, and it's a little strange to see that there's nothing very tangible to show for my summer. Because of the nature of this project, I haven't really "created" anything yet, while in each of my past summers I had written billions of lines of code by now.

Last weekend, I went to the Aerosmith / Kiss concert at the Nissan Pavilion (which is about ten miles down the road). The headliners were both good (I'd never seen either one live before), but the opening group, Saliva, was just horrible. It was interesting to see an older pot-bellied Gene Simmons trying to recreate his historical shtick, though I prefer Aerosmith to Kiss.

In other news, my sister is now engaged to her long-time boyfriend. They're both interested in the Veterinary program at Virginia Tech and are currently living in Christiansburg. Congratulations! Ellen also had a birthday on August 14. Mine is less than a month away!

On the musical side of life, I've contributed an easy arrangement of Mississippi Mud, commissioned for a brass quintet. Apparently some lady always requests it when they play at a particular nursing home. You can hear a MIDI of it here .

This afternoon, I finally got around to completing the Writings section of the Domain. There's no new material in it, but now all of your favourite sections from last year's web site are back in action. Of course, there's also a few new cat pictures to browse through on the Photos page. I modified quite a few files today, so if I've inadvertently broken something, please let me know.

College classes start up tomorrow at Virginia Tech and Florida State. I think I'll miss teaching, but it's good to finally be staying in one place for awhile. My roommate's sister is going to be a freshman at Tech so we'll probably go down a few times to see her and my sister.

Last Friday ended five straight weeks of working with consultants at work, and I'm definitely looking forward to going back to my old schedule and coming home around two in the afternoon. More afternoon time away from work will give me more time for composing and other bad habits.

A couple big storms passed through here this week, but we've been among the fortunate ones who still have power. Apparently, Pepco is struggling to get everyone back up in Montgomery County -- good thing I quit my internship there four years ago!

I've posted a few new cat pictures so you can see how big Booty is getting. She turned ten months old on August 25, and I've had her for almost six months now.

The first season of Alias comes out on DVD in five days. I'm sure you're all just as excited as I am.
