Duet of Dillamàro

String Bass and French Horn (3:25) March 1999

Commentary

This piece was commissioned by Peter Harmatuk, former string bassist of the Sympony Band and NRV Symphony. He didn't have any specific idea in mind; he just wanted a piece that "sounds like a piece written when a 20th century composer arranges a Bach fugue or prelude". I used lots of imitation and some counterpoint throughout and tried to give both the horn and bass equal footing.

This piece was originally slated to be on my Fifth Year Recital, but was bumped in mid-2000 to make way for the crowd-pleasing Clown Facades.
