Danare

Brass Ensemble and Drum Set (3:40) - May 1996

Commentary

After finishing the Jazz Sonata, I needed a break and decided to write a ballad in AABA form. The structure of this song is fairly simple. It is a solo trumpet feature written to a high school friend of mine.

The first statement is mostly solo trumpet with horns used for counterpoint and trombones used for harmony. The second statement begins with the rest of the trumpets with cup mutes (no good wavetable patches for that). Then the solo trumpet comes back in on a response line through the rest of the piece.
