Museday Tuesdays 2012

Unsent: (adj.) not dispatched or transmitted

My Composition (0:30 MP3)

For the first Museday of 2012, the randomly generated title made me picture an abandoned old-time post office, filled to the brim with dusty sacks of unsent mail.

Pelagic: (adj.) pertaining to the open seas or oceans

My Composition (0:30 MP3)

This excerpt started out as a hornpipe, but unintentionally morphed into something one might hear in a Zelda game mashed on top of the arrangement I did of Irish Washerwoman for Doobie ten years ago. This is not necessarily a good mixture, however, there's plenty of material available to expand upon at the end of the year if I don't write anything better by then.

Chariest: (adj.) The most cautious, careful, or wary.

My Composition (0:30 MP3)

I intentionally limited myself in this excerpt to piano, because I feel like I've overused a lot of other sounds in recent Musedays. This one started cautiously and then gradually built in intrigue until I hit the time limit. From the fade out, it would either be amazing or devolve into something we would have listened to during Sunday dinners growing up, but no one will ever know for sure.

Fluky: (adj.) obtained by chance rather than skill

My Composition (0:30 MP3)

I heard something repetitive and additive when I got this title from the random word generator. I don't do a lot with phase-y electronic patches, and this seemed an apropos place to start. The motive has a 75% chance of getting stuck in your brain.

Plushy: (adj.) characterized by luxury, wealth, or ease

My Composition (0:30 MP3)

This excerpt is written for soprano sax over strings and piano. I think the definition of "plush" as "comfortable" caught my mind more than the luxury or ease of the word.

Agleam: (adj.) Bright, radiant, or glowing

My Composition (0:30 MP3)

The first impression that came to mind with this word was a toothpaste commercial, with shiny teeth and plenty of primary background colors. It's written for harpsichord, glockenspiel, bassoon, flute, and assorted percussion.

Viscid: (adj.) sticky; adhesive; viscous

My Composition (0:30 MP3)

This excerpt is for viola and flutes over a mishmash of synths.
