In high school, I made a set of twenty deathmatch levels for the 3D game, Doom II which were extremely well-designed and architecturally pretty. This music was written as a theme to two of the levels in the package. It's a much different experience writing background music when all you've done is melodic material. It took me several tries to find the balance between interesting material and material that overshadowed the gameplay. The original version ended with random drum cues and fills, which allowed the piece to be continuously looped.
